Fear of God means staying away from evil or sin. Sin is anything that separates us from God. Sin is when we do or say what God says we should not, or not doing and not saying what God says we should. It amounts to disobedience. God says He delights in obedience not sacrifice.
It is the fear of God that keeps us from sinning. It is a reverential fear, whereby we love God so much to the extent that we do not want to go against His Word. We have free will, we can choose to do what we want; yet, not everything we do pleases God. Fear of God says, we can do that thing, however, we choose to do good and follow God’s Word.
God sees in secret and nothing is hidden from Him. He sees our thoughts, He sees our motives, He sees every action, and He hears every word we speak. There is nowhere we can go to hide from God. Knowing that then, we get to the point where everything in our life revolves around God. We renew our minds with the Word of God so that we can know the perfect will of God. It is not possible to do something if we do not know what is required of us. That is why we are to study and meditate on the Word of God, and in doing so, we are transformed.
The Bible tells us not to conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. The Word of God renews our minds.
The Bible tells us to guard our hearts above all else for out of it flows the springs of life. We have to be aware of what we listen to, what we watch, what we read, and the people we associate with. Out of the outflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. Every interaction we have affects us whether we realize it or not. That is why we need to be alert and sober. Not everything is edifying. We have to guard our hearts. Other people may not like it but it is a matter of life and death.
We cannot entertain everything and everyone. We take captive every thought and make it obedient to God. Everything has to change, for the better. We cannot continue in old ways. Following God involves following a different set of values; it involves obeying God’s commandments fully. However, it does not involve living an isolated life. It means everything we do has to be for God’s glory. We do everything in love.
It is well for those who fear God. God says He will fulfill the desires of those who fear Him, and He will also hear their cry and save them. When we are in Christ, our desires change. We align our will with God’s will. Our desires no longer come from selfish interests. Because of that, God fulfills our hearts’ desires in accordance with His will. We pray everything in accordance with God’s Word. God never contradicts His Word. The fear of the Lord leads to life.
Blessings.
