Hypocrisy in the world

Hypocrisy and self-deception in the world

Share

Hypocrisy is when we do or say one thing but our hearts and minds are somewhere else. It goes hand in hand with lies. It deceives other people. We can say something nice to a person then later talk about them behind their back or plan evil things or think about them in a negative manner.

It is a very common vice among us. It is a dangerous one. We may be interacting with our enemy without knowing. Such people appear very friendly but have ulterior motives. They can dine with us, befriend us, say and do things meant to entice. They put on a mask.

Hypocrisy is defined as, “the contrivance of a false appearance of virtue or goodness, while concealing real character or inclinations.” Appearances can be very deceiving. Some people talk a lot yet do not mean what they say.

Utterances and actions that do not align with the real intentions or motives of the heart can be so confusing. It is a form of deception from a person that leads many astray.

Thank God, He gives us guidance through His Word and the Holy Spirit. He tells us to put trust only in Him. Trusting people leads to broken hearts and ruined lives.

We should be very keen and rely on the Holy Spirit to discern people’s intentions. People can be very reckless; many can say or do anything. We should be very wary of people’s words. It is usually not as it appears or said.

You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: ‘These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. They worship Me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules. Matthew 15:7-9.

Thank God, He looks at the heart. Everyone will be held accountable for their words, actions, motives, and the impact of such on other people.

Hypocrisy and self-deception
Guard your heart

When a hypocritical person is discovered, they can turn hostile or abusive. They can use our well-meant words and actions against us. They are manipulative people. Lying is their language. Such speak lies as if it was the truth. They may go and spread lies in order to be liked or turn other people against us. Stay away from such!

How can God bless us with much if we cannot be trusted with little; when our words and actions do not align. When we live a lie.

In the same way, knowing what the Word of God says and not doing it makes us hypocrites. The Bible tells us not to merely listen to the Word and in so doing deceive ourselves.

Do what the Word of God says! When we do it, we become blessed. Doing what the Word says is wisdom.

The Bible tells us there are those who claim to know God but their actions deny Him: they are detestable, disobedient, and unfit for doing anything good.

We should always ask God to search our hearts. We should not do or say anything if our motives do not align. If we are just looking for earthly praise and recognition, then, we have already got our earthly reward. We are told that when we give to the needy not to let our left hand know what the right hand is doing. That is the heart of a person right with God.

We do not go shouting or telling everyone the good we are doing. We do not say things we do not mean. We do not do things to be praised by people. We do it for God. Our Father who is unseen and sees what is done in secret is the One who rewards us.

God can never be mocked.

Blessings.
