Forgive again and again

Forgive those who sin against you seventy times seven

Forgiveness is so important for everyone. Forgiveness sets us free. We forgive others out of obedience to God. Only God settles the score. It sets our souls free.

Forgiveness does not mean the other person did not wrong us, it does not justify the actions of the other person. We do it as an act of obedience to God’s Word.

God tells us to forgive; it is not an emotion, it is a choice. We choose to forgive, then God takes over the rest. We can forgive but still pursue justice according to the law of the land, especially when the other person is a danger to us and to other people. Jesus was very clear about forgiveness. He told Peter we are to forgive seventy times seven.

As many times as forgiveness is required, we are to do it.

But they wronged us! But they have not apologized! But! There are no buts. If we are really children of God, we are to forgive. It means we free ourselves from the other person. It means we do not plan to avenge, it means we do not go around talking bad about them, it means we do not think bad thoughts about the people who have wronged us.

God tells us that when we go to pray and remember we have something against another person, we should first stop and go make peace with them. It means God does not want hypocrisy. How can we claim to love God who we do not see yet we do not love our neighbor whom we see?

Yet, forgiveness does not mean we put ourselves in vulnerable situations or in line of danger. We can forgive yet still not allow such people in our lives again. We set new boundaries. Being believers means we are supposed to walk in wisdom. Not everyone is good for us, not everyone is meant to be in our lives.

We can still love, yet establish solid boundaries and distance. God did not place us in this world to used, misused, and abused. The Word of God is our life manual. In certain circumstances, the Bible tells us to flee, in others, it tells us not to associate with certain people. Staying in a situation that is not good for us is not God’s will.

God loves us and He tells us to forgive. We forgive because we have already been forgiven much and because we love God. When we forgive, something amazing happens – we become free; free from people bondage, free from the stronghold of sin.

Unforgiveness is sin, and it is one of the enemy’s tactics to lead people astray from God. The other person does not have to apologize for us to forgive. Most people never apologize, other people do not even realize when they wrong others. Harboring negative emotions against another person is poison to our souls.

We cannot move forward without forgiveness; years will pass by yet we are still on the same spot. We will keep blaming others. We will keep dwelling in the past. We fall sick physically, emotionally, and spiritually when we harbor unforgiveness, hatred, and bitterness; our lives become target for the enemy.

The enemy uses unforgiveness against us; he starts attacking us left, right, and center; he wants our lives to go to waste and end up in hell with him.

It is time to take responsibility. It is time to never allow other people’s words and actions to define us. We are children of God. The enemy has no hold over us; we should never give the enemy a foothold in our lives. The devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy; he is not our friend.

Christ became sin for us; He took it all for us. There is no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus. When Jesus died, He said it is finished. Therefore, we should never allow the enemy to deceive us. No one has the power to ‘destroy our lives’. They will come against us through one way but flee in seven ways.

We need to know the Word of God for ourselves. We are not to rely solely on others to feed us the Word, we are to know it for ourselves. The Word of God is the sword through which we fight the enemy. The Holy Spirit is our Teacher of Truth; He will help us to know what the Word means. He becomes our interpreter when we allow Him to.

We are to put on the full armor of God, because the battle we fight is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces. The absolute truth of God’s Word becomes our belt. The Word is Truth; everything God says is true. God never goes against His Word. His Word is meant for our good and to lead us into life everlasting.

Righteousness becomes our breastplate. When we are right with God, we follow His Word. We do not do things that go against His Word. The Word of God cleanses our souls and renews our mind. We do everything for God’s glory. We fit our feet with readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. When God says go, we go. When He says do, we do.

We become governed by God’s eternal Law, we walk through the narrow path that leads to life, the path that only very few find.

Faith becomes our shield for extinguishing flaming arrows from the evil one. We are told we cannot please God without faith. Faith is the assurance of things not yet seen. Faith says God is real, Jesus Christ died for our sins. Faith allows the Holy Spirit to minister to us. Faith says heaven is indeed real. By faith we speak the Word of God over life’s storms, by faith we are saved.

Salvation becomes our helmet, we are saved by the blood of the Lamb of God. We are no longer condemned, we are made new. The old passes away, behold, we embrace the new. We are not saved by our works, it is a gift from God, we just have to accept it and turn away from sins. When we live according to God’s Law, we become blameless, nothing can stand against the truth. Finally, we take the sword of Spirit, which is the Word of God.

We are to pray in the Spirit on all occasions, we are to keep alert and pray for all God’s people. We should never allow the enemy to trap us with unforgiveness. Yes, we are to forgive, forgive again, and forgive again and again. The Bible says that if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Yes, it’s that serious. Nothing in this world is worth losing eternal life.

Blessings.
