When You Do Not Get What You Want

Share

Life is full of change. Every second that passes by is time that has passed. There is a season for every event in this world. Things change, people change, seasons change, time moves. We change from childhood to adulthood to old age, we go through schools and through different jobs, we change locations, friendships change while others fall apart, relationships change while others fall apart, we go through loss, a person may be here now then gone the next minute. That is how life on earth is. When you do not get what you want, stop first and seek God for clear direction.

Nothing is permanent in this world, all shall pass away.

The Bible tells us that to everything there is a season, and a time for every activity under heaven. Everything happens in God’s timing, there is an appointed time for everything, including the course of our lives. Human beings however can be or are very impatient and very self-centered. We usually want things to happen when we want and how we want, we want our lives to line up with the plans we have made up for ourselves, we want other people to be the way we expect them to be. We want to get what we want.

However, God does not always work the way we expect Him to, He is sovereign and He has appointed a time and a season for everything.

We cannot coerce or manipulate God into doing what we want, we cannot force Him to do things or to follow us as we take the lead, that is impossible. That is not how God works. We cannot force our way on God, we cannot trick Him. Our minds and our thinking are very limited and we forget that God sees the whole picture.

We only see the now and we try to force things to happen that fit our limited way of thinking. However, with time we come to realize that when things do not go our way no matter how hard we try, it is God’s way of protecting us from ourselves and from the enemy. We can quickly turn self-destructive and even destroy the lives of other people if everything was to go our way and if we were to get everything that we think we need. God’s ways are not our ways and His mind is not our mind.

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9.

Imagine if you had continued in that relationship or friendship with that person, imagine if you had married that person, imagine if you had not walked away from that abusive, perverted, pride-filled person, imagine if you had moved to that place, imagine if you had gone to that school or taken up that course, imagine if you had taken that job, imagine if you had not repented and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior!

So many things could have gone wrong had God not protected us from ourselves and from the traps of the enemy.

Many people do not like hearing the word no. When God gives us no for an answer, we tend to try to resist it. We keep pushing and pursuing those things or people we think are good for us. We keep pushing and pushing, pursuing and pursuing things and people who God has already said no to. We use all of our limited strength trying to get what we want. But if or when we do finally get those things or people, we finally come to realize why God said no.

When God has clearly told you that that person or that thing or that whatever you are pursuing is not good for you, the wisest thing to do is to let those people or those things go. Trust in the Lord and you will never go wrong. Let the Holy Spirit be your guide and you will never make a wrong turn. Yes it is hard to let go of our way, yes it is hard to surrender our will and make God’s will our will, yet, it is one of the wisest choices we can ever make.

When you do not get what you want, you should realize that it is God protecting you and start seeking His will and surrender to Him.

We may want something that seems good but if it is the wrong timing then that makes it the wrong thing for us at that particular time. God is a God of order and He loves us. He will not give us something that will destroy us and neither will He give us things nor bring people into our lives who we will turn into idols. We are to let go of trying to control our lives or things or other people and surrender our way and make God’s way our way.

Let us desire what God desires, let the Word of God be our roadmap during our journey in this world. If God says no then it becomes a no for us, if God says wait then we wait upon the Lord, if God says yes then it becomes a yes for us. We are to seek first the Kindom of God.

But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33.

God is the One in charge of seasons, He is the One in charge of our lives, He is the One in control. Let us surrender trying to get what we want and start pursuing what God wants. God’s Word is Truth and He does what He says He will do. Surrendering to God removes all those unnecessary burdens off our shoulders that have weighed us down for too long. Following God’s lead is the way to peace. God’s way is the best way and the only way to life.

Blessings.
