Most people accumulate a lot of wounds to their souls in their lifetime here on earth. There are many wounded souls in the world. We are born without knowing anything concerning this world; the things that we eventually get to know we learn from the environment, from our families, from our friends, from our neighbors, and from everything else that goes on around our surroundings and in the world at large.
All the experiences that we go through shape up who we eventually turn out to be.
Things that occurred in childhood, in our surroundings, in school, with those people around us, in our places of work, and in every season of our lives influence who we become, whether we are aware of it or not. What people have done with us or to us, what people have said to us or about us, what we see, watch, and listen to – whether we remember those things or not, everything plays a significant part in our lives.
In the process of growing up and even in adulthood and old age, a lot of damage may be done to the soul. Wounded souls are everywhere around us, even if those souls are not aware of what is happening within them, and even if we are not aware of it. Our life experiences, no matter how insignificant the experience is considered to be, all the experiences matter.
We tend to internalize a lot of things, especially when we are still young and still very impressionable – things said to us or about us or things we see and hear stick in our minds and may make us adjust in accordance with other people’s opinions or ideas or views about who we are or how we ought to carry ourselves. Other people’s words and actions and what we listen to, watch, see and say all plant a seed in our hearts. With time, the seed, whether good or bad, matures and starts to bear fruit.
Before we reach the point in life when we know who we are, it is important for the people who love us to always do their best to point us in the right direction. The people who are in our lives who are good-willed towards us are important in giving us direction and especially in pointing us to the Lord.
People who lack a good foundation growing up may end up making long detours in life because they may go looking for acceptance, love, validation, praise, worth, and value from all the wrong places and from things and other people, deceived that such things or people have the answers. Some people who make such detours do not recover nor find their way back to the narrow path that leads to life. When we do not know from whom our worth and value comes from, we will go indulging in meaningless things of this world.
Soul wounds occur when we look up to the wrong people and the wrong things; it comes in when we do not know who our Source is, it comes in when we live our lives purposelessly and divert from the purpose that God created us for, it comes in when we look to fill the God-sized voids within us with people, things, money, power, worldly wealth, and pleasures of this world – voids that can only be filled by God.
Wounded souls are unstable souls that can erupt at any time, just like a dormant volcano.
A person who is yet to receive their wholeness from the Lord lives their life feeling like there is always something missing, like there is an emptiness within them that they do not know how to fill. In search of that fulfillment, many people indulge in the cares, worries, addictions, and pleasures of this world, yet, even after all that indulgence, the voids remain.
The God-sized void within every one of us is only filled by God.
We were created to worship God, and whenever we divert our hearts from the Lord, we will never get fulfillment. Whenever we are not worshiping God, then we are automatically worshiping something or someone else. We need God every moment of every day and in every area of our lives. Only God heals the wounded souls; the Word of God is food for the soul. Feed your mind with the Word of God, the Word is good seed and will transform you by renewing your mind, and leads to life everlasting.
Our spirits, souls, and bodies need God. We cannot do without God. Jesus Christ is the healer.
As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you. Isaiah 66:13.
I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord. Jeremiah 30:17.
We receive our healing from God the Father, through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Lord, you know how long I long for my health once more. You hear my every sigh. Psalm 38:9.
Blessings.
