The path to eternal life is narrow, it involves complete dying to self, it involves denying oneself many of the things this world has to offer. When we accept Christ, we choose to follow His commandments. Our love for God is manifest by our willingness to obey His Law.
We cannot claim to love God and yet we indulge in everything the world indulges in. We cannot claim to love God yet we are driven by the love of money, power, and fame. We have to repent and that involves a complete turnaround, from the ways of the world into embracing the ways of God.
There has to be a difference between children of God and the world. We are called to be Christ-like.
Jesus told us that if we love Him we will keep His commandments. The path to life is narrow and only a few find it. This world offers temporary pleasures, it offers temporary comfort, it offers temporary happiness; everything in this world is temporary. Only God remains. We should never lose sight, we should never become so comfortable in this world that we forget where our real home is.
We should realize there is eternity after life in this world, and eternity means forever. The years we live in this world are nothing compared to eternity. We should not be deceived. The enemy is a liar and he tries to deceive people so that they can lose eternal life. Anything the enemy promises is a lie, it may give temporary pleasure but there is always a cost to pay. The enemy has nothing to offer, he is a created being and he knows his destiny is eternity in hell and his plan is to take as many souls with him as possible.
The Bible advises us to choose the narrow path.
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14.
Let us be sober. This world is not our home. We are passers-by. We are here just for a short while. Only God makes life worth living, anything else is temporary. God loves us and He wills us good, He has good plans for us. Walking the narrow path feels restrictive, yet, it is the only way that leads to life. The narrow path involves dying to the flesh and walking in the spirit. The flesh and spirit are in conflict with each other, one has to die. The works of the flesh lead to destruction but being led by spirit leads to life.
Jesus died for us. He paid the price for our sins with His own blood. We are conquerors in Jesus Christ. With Jesus, it is a win-win. When we repent and accept the gift of salvation, we become children of God, adopted into son-ship through Jesus.
We are then required to take up our cross and follow Jesus.
“Then Jesus told His disciples, ‘If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it'” Matthew 16:24-25.
We die to the ways of the world and gain life for eternity with God. Jesus loves us with an everlasting love. May we choose wisely.
Blessings.
