And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28.
Sometimes in life we go through a lot, we face mountains and valleys, we encounter storms of all kinds, we go through pain and despair, we go through loss too painful to put in words, we come across people who are out to ruin us; we go through things and encounter people who seem to be out to get us.
During such moments, it is easy to question the faithfulness of God, it is easy to ask where God is, it is easy to blame Him for what we are going through, it is easy to ask where He is and why He cannot make things better, it is easy to get frustrated, it is easy to start doubting the existence of God; it is easy to walk away from Him when things are bad and we are being hit by storms left, right, and center.
When we see no end in sight, when we see no light at the end of the tunnel, it is easy to start compromising.
It is easy to start saying things are too hard, maybe this is not what God wanted, maybe we misunderstood what God said, maybe this, maybe that. When we are in pain, when we are in dark valleys, when we are going through trials and tribulations of all kind, when we feel alone because people have run away from us, when the season we are in requires a lot of waiting; during such times, it is easy to try and find the easy way out. It is easy to start seeking the easier option, the easier way out. Yet, God’s Word remains.
We are told not to be conformed to the patterns of this world but instead to be transformed by the renewal of our minds.
We need to shift our mindset with the Word of God, and when we do, we will start looking at things in a different manner. We will start seeing God at work in every area of our lives regardless of what we may be going through, we will start seeing God at work behind the scenes, we will start learning the lessons God wants us to learn in every season of life we encounter.
We will start realizing that God has never left us, we will start realizing God is holding us through the valleys, He is sheltering us during the storms; we will come to know God’s sustaining power. God wants to refine us; when we go through fire we come out on the other end purified. We are able to rely on God completely. During life’s storms we come to know Who is in control of our lives and everything in it. We come to know that all things work together for good to those who love God.
We are to live a life of thanksgiving regardless of our circumstances. We are to get off ourselves, we are to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and arise. When we can give thanks to God when we are in pain, when we can praise and worship God when we are in deep dark valleys, then, we are on the path to spiritual maturity. God’s will is that we give thanks in all circumstances.
Whatever happens, give thanks, because it is God’s will in Christ Jesus that you do this. 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
When we can thank God during storms, that shows we are not after God so that we can get something from Him, it shows we are not after God just for the benefits, it shows we are not after God just so that we can have better lives; being able to give thanks regardless of our circumstances reveals our true love for God. Anybody who is with you when things are good but runs away when things get tough does not really love you; they pretend to love you when they can get something from you but when they realize that you are no longer of value to them, they walk away. That is how most people treat God.
God remains God regardless of our circumstances.
May we reach a point of total reliance on God, may we reach a point where we are able to worship God regardless of our circumstances. May we walk through the seasons we encounter in life with boldness knowing that God is with us every step of the way, may we learn the lessons and use them for the honor and glory of God.
For You have tried us O God; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid an oppressive burden upon our loins. You made men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water, yet You brought us out into a place of abundance. Psalm 66:10-12.
When we look back after we have gone through and rose above the storms, we will realize that God was with us every step of the way, we will realize we have accumulated and stored treasures in heaven, we will realize that all things work together for good to those who love God.
“I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure. I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold. They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘These are My people,’ and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God'” Zechariah 13:9.
